Church Fellowship—Working Together for the Truth
By John F. Brug
How do we interact with Christians who are outside our church body? Do we refuse to give them the time of day? Do we participate with them in their worship services and in prayer, because, after all, we are all Christians?
Questions like these and many others are very practical for our Christian lives. We live in a divided world. People are divided on their views of politics, morals, and social values. Unfortunately, there is division within the visible Christian church. It’s a truth we cannot escape. A truth we deal with on a regular basis. So what do we do? How should we act? Should we embrace the very noble sounding concept of agreeing to disagree on what God’s Word says?
In his book, Church Fellowship—Working Together for the Truth—John Brug tackles these and other difficult questions. The author gives clear, Scriptural principles that guide our dealings with Christians of other denominations who believe things the Savior never taught.
The book is divided into three parts. In part one, Brug discusses the Scriptural principles of Church Fellowship. This covers a full six chapters, and clearly outlines what God says about this important teaching of the Bible.
In part two, the author delves briefly into church history. Brug shows how the teaching of Church Fellowship applied in the early Christian church and the church at the time of the Reformation. He also discusses the break in fellowship between the Missouri and Wisconsin Synods.
In part three, Brug takes the Scriptural principles and applies them to our lives. He does not cover every situation a Christian may face, but gives enough example to provide a tremendous amount of guidance.
This little book gives a complete and concise summary of the teaching of Church Fellowship. It will serve all Christians as they seek to be faithful to the Lord and his truth. |
